Presley’s version was released as a single in November 1956 as the B-side to “Blue Suede Shoes” . It reached #17 on the Billboard pop singles chart.
It was recorded during Presley’s famous sessions at Radio Recorders studio in Hollywood in September 1956.
Presley changed some lyrics from Little Richard’s original to make them less sexually suggestive for the mass market .
The song became a staple of Presley’s live shows for years. He performed it in early TV appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Milton Berle Show.
