Make Your Toilet Shine With This Kitchen Product: Grandma’s Secret

Even if our bathroom is cleaned often, a shiny toilet may require the use of certain products, often we cannot avoid the appearance of yellow stains. Despite the many products on the market for household cleaning, we often turn to what we have at home to achieve the same results while not polluting the environment.

How to make your toilet shine

Certainly, before and after using the bathroom, we always want to maintain a dynamic of maximum cleanliness. This makes sense, since we are talking about a relatively large source of bacteria and dirt here. Therefore, cleaning the bathroom is usually frequent and thorough, even if it is decidedly unpleasant. Although we have focused on it as the bacterial epicenter in the home, our bathroom is not the only place where these microorganisms colonize.

Since the Covid-19 outbreak, we’ve also redoubled our efforts against germs and pathogens, building up our defenses. Hand washing and the presence of hydroalcoholic gels have thus increased their spread. Unfortunately, these guilty little insects are not always on our hands, but in many corners of our house. Cleaning the bathroom, starting with the toilet, sink and shower, are mandatory steps to ensure a home free of infections, bacteria and bad odors. The use of sodium bicarbonate or other products available in the kitchen to clean bathrooms has also become common, as it whitens, decalcifies and is very suitable for cleaning toilets. In our homes, it is important to ensure that the bathroom is cleaned and disinfected. It should be at the top of the list of household chores to be done at home.

Grandma’s secret

Our homes are full of various bacteria, most of which come from our skin. They are obviously not alone, many depend on the environment of the house, generally in dark or damp areas, the presence of fungi, yeasts and gram-negative bacteria is also abundant. Although it is common to fear them, we should not think that our lives are exposed to a deadly risk, since we are relatively accustomed to them. In this list of usual suspects, we must not forget others that may be present, such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella or Norovirus , which are not so common anyway, but still exist. It has also long been used some grandmother’s solutions that can successfully clean the toilet, especially if a certain dark patina has formed.

For this grandmother’s remedy you need to put in a bowl:

  • 3 tablespoons of flour,
  • 2 tablespoons of fine salt,
  • sodium bicarbonate.

Once the three ingredients are mixed, you just need to moisten the toilet bowl and then spread the powder on the entire surface we moistened. Then we leave the product to act for about 20 minutes. After the soaking time is over, simply wipe it off with a toilet brush. The flour has an absorbing effect, while the salt supports the sterilizing effect and is slightly abrasive. In this case, as we have since learned, bicarbonate performs a decontamination action.
